Dermal fillers - yes or no?

When patients come to see me for a consultation and specifically say they don't want dermal fillers, their reasons are often based in misconception. Unfortunately, any social media search will bring up an abundance of photos showing over blown lips, puffy cheeks, and other "over done" faces and, more recently, scary stories of complications arising following dermal filler treatment, which do nothing to reassure that fillers can provide either safe or natural results.

However, in the right hands and with the right products and techniques, dermal fillers can provide safe, stunningly natural looking results with minimal recovery time. There are several reputable brands of fillers, however, I'm an advocate of the Juvederm range due to their versatility, gold-standard scientific formulas and excellent safety record. High standard dermal filler treatment requires not only an in-depth knowledge of the facial anatomy but an artists eye to know how to best to recreate those youthful facial contours to avoid an unnatural look. As an experienced healthcare professional specialising in aesthetic treatments, I would recommend to avoid disappointing results and ensure your safety, you should steer clear of cheap brands and discount treatments no matter how tempting they may be - I truly believe the old adage of "you get what you pay for".

An experienced medical aesthetics practitioner can assess the ageing face and using advanced techniques, place dermal fillers to effectively replace volume in specific areas to support facial tissues and restore the youthful contours of the face to where they once were. In some cases placing the filler at bone level will allow support to sagging tissues whereas in other cases, placing filler more superficially can plump out the skin to improve lines and wrinkles. In addition, there are different formulas of fillers, each appropriate for different applications.

To know what's right for you, an in-depth consultation is essential to aid in assessment of which types of dermal filler and methods of treatment will best suit you and to enable a bespoke treatment plan to be created for your particular needs - remember, every face is unique and what's suitable for one person may be totally wrong for the next! At DC Aesthetics, during your personalised consultation I like to take the time to not only discover which treatments would most benefit you but, also, to get to know you and what your goals are in regards to your appearance, so that we can work together to achieve results we are both happy with.

In summary, if you don't like seeing signs of ageing in your face but think dermal fillers or other aesthetic treatments aren't for you, don't rule them out as you might be pleasantly surprised! If you would like to find out more or discuss how I can help you, come along and see me for a complimentary consultation.
